Chennai Metro Rail Map

Chennai Metro Rail Project Route Plan

Accuracy < 500m

  • shanmugam / March 14, 2010 at 2:28 pm

This seems to be not so useful. This does not cover the entire city. Of course we have the MRTS and regular railway. But it seems the metro will not cut the travel time in a big way because the number of interconnections are very less. This is a metro just for the namesake. This does not cover even 20% of the city.

  • shanmugam / March 14, 2010 at 2:39 pm

I have traveled in London Metro. It is said to be the best in the world. Any metro station is always within 1 to 1.5 km distance from any place in the city. So one can just walk to a metro. It really makes the need for owning private vehicles redundant. And they have imposed a tariff on vehicles entering Central London. So people avoid taking their own car/bike to work. They always take the metro. But seeing the map of Chennai Metro, it seems like one has a take his/her car/bike to a station and then travel by Metro. Why would somebody do that when they can just travel by car/bike. By convention, a metro must be within walking distance. This is just another railway like the already existing MRTS and city railway.

The two corridors you see in the map are the phase1 of the project. Apparently there are 7 corridors totally proposed

  • davidjeba / September 14, 2010 at 11:18 am

Yup, This seems to be implemented with a perspective to reduce road traffic in arterial roads.
A good Subway road from north-east Chennai to south-east Chennai
and north-west Chennai to south-west Chennai would have been benefited.
looks like Ex-Traffic policemen was the architect of this project.

  • balaji mohan / October 26, 2010 at 1:44 pm

lets be positive guys, a metro rail is the best way of public transport and it really is a “boost” to any city that wants to call itself a metro! we should proud of it. i am really looking forward to it. i have travelled in european metros, and the one in Delhi is world standard, if we are getting the same its definitely something to be proud of. i just hope they would integrate the redundant “fly rail” stations with this, to use them to the maximum

Guys, this will definitely add a lot of value to the commuters in the city. I have travelled in Tokyo Metro and I know how convenient the system is. It is sure to provide hasslefree transportation. It wont be realistic if we expect Chennai Metro to cover the entire city on its initial phase. Give it a thought.. No city in the world have never done that in one shot. We need to go one step at a time and we are just at the first step. I would appreciate the CMRL officials as they have decided to include some of the most senstitive corridors of Chennai in the first phase itself i.e. the Anna Salai and the Jawaharlal Nehru Road (100 ft road). The Chennai Metro will largely support inter-modal transit systems. I would request you all to go thorugh the article below:

Now itself Govt should commence the study/plan for extending the metro from Alandur to Velachery via nanganallur, adambakkam, madipakkam, keelkattalai, medavakkam etc.I have travelled extensively in Singapore MRTs and found their success is mainly due to their mrt routes and stations in most of the residential areas connecting all corridors at more than one statons.

  • Imtiyaz / January 6, 2011 at 10:39 am

    Dear Friends

I had been to Delhi last week,DMRC is very good had most of my travelling time. With Purchase of smartcard could easily change lines and was able to reach all the places which I wanted to in maximum 30 mins. Otherwise it would normally take 1.30 hrs by road. Lets hope the project gives better and faster transport for chennaites.

    Good Luck for CMRL.

  • abej / January 17, 2011 at 11:06 am

Why these people dumping all the things in capital city leads to this costly project (14,600 crore) ? Is these IT firms and outsourcing companies needs any resources which is available only in chennai and not in any part of the state? poor prediction! anyway this amount is not greater than 1.76 lakh crore

  • karthikheyan / January 22, 2011 at 7:52 am

Hi all, Can any one tell about the Survey Numbers affected my Metro Rail. Is any Metro line is comming near Vanuvanpet in S.No.259 part Adambakkam Vilalge, Alandur Muncipality.

  • Kamalraj / January 28, 2011 at 5:52 am

I think all the rail corridors concentrate on North – South direction of the chennai city. Government should consider of developing a East-West Corridor in Phase-I for better connectivity.

  • shankar / February 24, 2011 at 2:56 am

please quick finish for this project

  • kalaiyarasan / March 11, 2011 at 9:24 pm

the map is not clear.atleast the station point may fix up clearly

  • Arun / May 25, 2011 at 3:23 pm

The metro has to be connected to Tambaram as Tambaram, chrompet and pallavaram are the main feeders points for any form of transport. They have metro inside airport which is not connected to any other form of transport . Other stations enroute are also not connected to the bus routes or Sub urban.People should get down in Alandur and change to Metro, Since Metro requires huge volume . they can extend it atleast to Pallavaram and can be elevated . It will cost a bit bit is worth the investment

  • teja / June 4, 2011 at 9:00 am

  • Corract plan view for public / September 2, 2011 at 3:41 am

    Dear Sir

If all MRTC rail exact plan if you are display in the net for public it will be usefulle for it veriaus purpose like purches of lands in purticular MRTC project line concent survey no. or not if it is crossing the concernt Survey No.

  • Raj / October 23, 2011 at 8:36 am

This form of feedback seems to be not read by officials. Not sure they care for all these. Before implementing or planning they should have high level survey from some university and team. They would give better solutions for Chennai. Just for name sake doing something will not yield anything. Now whatever is being implemented is of enough capacity for the population? MRT’s should cover those clogging roads and try to reduce personal vehicle users. Not to keep their populations same. Also the present plan is to have how many ways? Commuters are left in dark about this. The construction looks like a single go and same track is also for the return! For Chennai, 3 x 3 ways are aloso not enough at the prsent rate.

Who cares for the educated people’s advice?
Who wants all the developments to be at Chennai? Why cant be in other districts too?
On the otherside, companies cash-in on the population like 1 Lakh car, can you people in the government think? 1 Lakh car would further flood the streets! not to speak about the clogged roads?

See, in this chain of feedback who writes first? The real estate broker, who is going to hike the price on seeing the correct route? He needs all the survey numbers!

As a interim requirement, at least 2 way go- 2 way separate return. Should try to cover those roads inside the city, also identify those traffic chokers like T Nagar stores and relocate them to some where near Poonamallee or away. Those who want to purchase for wedding and for the other occasions, they can spend some time going there and get it done. MRT’s must cover today’s suburbs and tomorrow’s urban areas, so that people wont come in everyday. The mass employers also must relocate near to some stations so that they dont employ private buses or cars to commute!

be quick guys jaya might change it to monorail or no rail

  • vijayr / November 11, 2011 at 7:05 am

what is the point is connecting the heart of city in a circle.. rather metro should help decongest the city. and connect the periphery. look at how the tambaram line has saturated. why not decluster and create townships like OMR let us say. sriperumbudur, kanchipuram, poonamallee, tiruvallur. its a no-incremental benefit project. unlikely to breakeven

  • Sathish kumar / December 6, 2011 at 4:47 pm

Metro rail is really awesome. Is ‘ll be useful for each nd every one. If its come really traffic ‘ll be reduce in chennai:)

  • Suresh / July 31, 2012 at 10:19 am

MRTS and normal EMU service should be taken over by CMRL (Chennai Metro) and the whole network should be developed. Monorail should not be executed instead Metrorail should be extended then only a full integrated system will be fulfilled. Many passengers are expecting the same. Every body can travel without getting down and boarding a new train insted can travel by the same train to their respective destination. Metro rail should be extended to chengalpattu. Modernisation is required in EMU services so please consider my request and CMRL should take over EMU service too from Beach to Chengalpattu.

  • sivakumar / August 31, 2012 at 9:36 pm

dear sir metro train should be connected to many areas so that people use metro more aand rates of ticket for long distance should be nominal cost affordable for
    middle class public

  • Uday / October 2, 2012 at 10:47 am

i think metro should propose next project between tiruvallur-sriperumbadur-poonamalle, as they dont have good connectivity. lot of mnc’s are also situated in these areas like caterpillar, tvs delphi, irungattukottai industrial hub, so i hope the government officials will read this.

  • goutham / July 29, 2013 at 11:57 am
