We have been working on a project that would help the MTC and also reduce the traffic on the GST road. The initial part of the work is to get the number of PCU’s that the airport is feeding into the GST. The statistics are very interesting as you may expect, assuming 60% of the people leaving Chennai domestic airport take the car we are talking about 90000 cars leaving the domestic terminal per week! Imagine the prospects of moving this traffic out of GST! Less traffic congestion Advantage Chennai!
The next stage is to work out a operating schedule for the airport.

the next step to this study was to find where these passengers are headed towards in the city, which is exactly what we did today. Based on the interview with a few taxi drivers it seems for now that the traffic heading out from the chennai domestic airport is now moving towards:

Adyar / Thiruvanmiyur / Santhome    22%
Velachery / Madipakkam     15%
T Nagar / Alwarpet / Nandanam    18%
Anna Nagar    15%
Parry    10%
Avadi / Ambattur    10%
Tambaram    10%
