I like the idea of collaboration, and this is a good initiative to bring these people together. To effect real change, however, we need to bring together more officials with real power to such forums. If the tone of discussion switches from ‘who’s to blame’ to ‘who’s ready to change the situation’, we will all be better off for it.
I am part of a not for profit orgn called The Knowledge Foundation that is currently on discussion with The Chennai Traffic Police to bring in some digital initiatives that can create transparency in the system as well as to leverage technology to help them do a better job. Some of the initiatives being discussed are
Realtime Traffic updates on Twitter and facebook
SMS Channel for daily update on your office route
Accident Hotspots identification and alerts on Mobile
The point is they are empathic in listening to our issues and arrive at solutions. Effective governance is possible only by citizen participation.
