There is a lot of change happening in Chennai infrastructure. Based on the recent Wilbur Smith report 52% of trips in Chennai are short distance trips i.e of <5kms. and currently most of it is done by walk and motorized transport. This adds to the chaos on the roads and needless to say the pollution that is hardly quantified within the city’s context. This time around, Chennai Corporation has added deadlines to its vision and so you should soon see well designed cycle tracks in Chennai in the next few quarters.
As part of the phase-1, Chennai Corporation has given the go-ahead to City Connect & ITDP to proceed with the design of cycle track in the Anna-Nagar Zone. At this stage, field surveys are in progress and soon designing should start. Unlike previous attempts, this time it is all-round and all inclusive design that is likely to be implemented.
From international designs to parking lots to parking meters and traffic calming systems to ensure rider safety, Anna Nagar should soon look like a great place to get your cycle on the roads. So go get you cycle ready!
